Defibrillator

picture of defibrillator

Our Defibrillator is a PowerHeartAED G3 manufactured by Cardiac Science. It has been purchased in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation and the National Lottery. This defibrillator is an Automated machine which means that it makes the decision on whether to shock a casualty or not. Although some training is required, all the operator has to do is to follow the instructions that the machine gives you by way of voice and/or audio visual prompts. It will not allow an operator to shock a patient inappropriately. With the use of an adaptor, the defibrillator pads are compatible with the defibrillators that the ambulance crew use. This prevents wasting time in changing pads.

The main section contains an Oxygen cylinder (size CD) and a selection of masks for different uses. We carry three sizes of oro-pharyngeal (OP) airways which are used to prevent the tongue from falling back and blocking the throat. The other half contains dressings, bandages, protective goggles and antibacterial handwash.

In the smaller pouch is a bag and mask (not shown) used for inflating the patient's lungs with Oxygen. Used with an oxygen cylinder, it can deliver 100% pure Oxygen, giving the patient the best possible treatment. Elsewhere, we carry suction equipment, a torch and spare latex-free gloves.

In addition, a fluorescent tabard identifies us as a Community Responder and the mobile 'phone is used to contact us as well as for us to contact Ambulance Control when necessary. Finally, pen and confidential forms to document any cases.
