Guide to Maidenhead

Maidenhead lies on the river Thames in Royal Berkshire. Its proximity to London is an advantage and a disadvantage. It is popular for commuters, lying on a main Intercity rail link, but its facilities suffer, especially with Reading and Windsor so near. The Town Council are attempting to redress this and recently two Supermarkets (Waitrose and Sainsbury's) have undergone radical increases in retail space. In addition, Marks and Spencer has undergone a refit.
Maidenhead hosts a regular Farmers' market as well as occasional French Markets along the High Street.
Eating is a definite plus with two Michelin-starred restaurants (The Waterside in and the Fat Duck) in Bray, on the outskirts. A third is rumoured to be opening soon.
For sightseeing, the area around the bridge is particularly picturesque and a wander up the road alongside the river will bring you to Boulter's Lock, a great attraction in the summer months and Ray Mill Island, behind it is well worth a visit.
